KNOWN ISSUES:
- Some KDE3 distributions (like Debian Lenny) may still use an old version of kdesudo, which has a bug handling filenames with spaces, and unexpected results may occur. Workarounds: 1. uninstall kdesudo (and use kdesu instead), 2. avoid using root actions on filenames with spaces, 3. "bug" your distributors to update kdesudo to the latest. 4. build your own kdesudo from the latest sources.

Root Actions servicemenu provides a convenient way to perform several actions 'as root', from the right-click context menu in KDE filemanagers.

It aims to be distribution agnostic, if you experience issues in your distribution, drop me an email describing the issue.

The menu needs a properly configured kdesu/kdesudo to work (kdesudo is preferred, for some added functionality, like remembering password for a period of time...timeout is configurable by sudo settings)

Any comments, criticism and improvement suggestions welcomed :)

Included in the download are .desktop file versions for KDE3 konqueror, KDE3 dolphin, KDE4 (both konqueror and dolphin) and an importable user action xml file for krusader KDE4...see installation for details.

Some distributions have packages available in either their main repos or community repos. For easy installation and possible distro specific patches you can use them if available. Manual installation instructions below:

Version 2.3 ->
1. Uncompress the rootactions-servicemenu.pl script in Root_Actions_2.x to a directory in your $PATH. /usr/local/bin or /usr/bin are two valid options. Make the script executable (if it's not).

2a. (Konqueror for KDE3) Uncompress the three .desktop files in /konqueror-KDE3 to ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus (This will enable the menu for individual users, if you wish to enable the menu for all users, copy the files to /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus instead).

2b. (Dolphin for KDE3) Uncompress the two .desktop files in /dolphin-KDE3 to ~/.kde/share/apps/d3lphin/servicemenus (This will enable the menu for individual users, if you wish to enable the menu for all users, copy the files to /usr/share/apps/d3lphin/servicemenus instead).

2c. (Dolphin and Konqueror for KDE4) Uncompress the two .desktop files in /dolphin-KDE4 to your kde4 servicemenu folder (possibly ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus...although $KDEHOME [".kde"] can be something else in your distribution). If you wish to use konqueror instead of dolphin as your filemanager, edit 10-rootactionsfolders.desktop by changing 'dolphin' to 'konqueror'.

2d. (Krusader for KDE4) Import krusader_rootactions.xml file in /krusader-KDE4 with krusader's action manager.

Version 2.x
- Open Terminal Here (folders, both in 2.4.7 and later) - open a root terminal session in chosen folder
- Open in File Manager (folders, both in 2.4.7 and later) - open chosen folder(s) in file manager (default is konqueror)
- Open as Text (files) - open chosen folder(s) in text editor (default is kate)
- Open With ... (both) - open chosen items in a program of your choice

- Copy (both) - copy a single file or folder (ADDED in 2.1)
- Move/Rename (both) - if multiple items selected and a batch renamer installed (default is krename) start renamer, otherwise use a simple move/rename dialog
- Delete (both) - Completely removes chosen items (as this is potentially hazardous, there is an extra confirmation dialog), handy for removing back-up files etc.

- Ownership to Root (both) - change ownership of chosen items to root:root
- Ownership to Active User (both) - change ownership of chosen items to current user
- Ownership to ... (both) - change ownership of chosen items to UID:GID of your choice

- Change Permissions (both) - change permissions of chosen items
If only a single folder is selected, permissions/ownership can be set recursively. If changing permissions recursively, files are only set executable if they already are executable (Otherwise all files in a directory would be set executable if the parent folder is set executable, which is necessary for the folder to be accessible)

digiKam is an advanced digital photo management application for KDE, which makes importing and organizing digital photos a "snap". The photos can be organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by directory layout or by custom collections.

Tired of the directory constraints? Don’t worry, digiKam also provides tagging functionality. You tag your images which can be spread out across multiple folders and digiKam provides fast and intuitive ways to browse these tagged images. You can also add comments and rating to your images. digiKam makes use of a fast and robust database to store these meta-informations which makes adding and editing of comments and tags very reliable.

digiKam makes use of KIPI plugins for lots of added functionality. KIPI (KDE Image Plugin Interface) is an initiative to create a common plugin infrastructure for digiKam, KPhotoAlbum, Showimg, and GwenView. Its aim is to allow development of image plugins which can be shared among KDE graphical applications.

An easy to use interface is provided that enables you to connect to your camera and preview, download and/or delete your images. digiKam includes too an image editor for image corrections and manipulations whitch can be extended by plugins.

Another tool, which most artists and photographers will be familiar with, is a Light Table. This tool assists artists and photographers with reviewing their work ensuring only the highest quality. A light table will show the artist their imperfections in which they can go and touch up. Well in digiKam, the light table function provides the user a similar experience. You can import a photo, drag it onto the light table, and touch up only the areas that need it.

The digiKam Image Editor has its own plugin subsystem with some common tools e.g. red eye correction or Gamma correction. Additional plugins are provided with the main application to process advanced corrections on image like color management, noise reduction, or special effects. digiKam Image Editor support all camera RAW file formats, 16 bits color depth, Exif/Makernote/IPTC/GPS metadata, Color management, tagging/rating/comments pictures, etc.

A lots of search tools are also available to be able to find specific photo on whole collection : Time line, Calendar, Advanced Search using multiple and complex database queries (tags, rating, keywords, date,
etc...)

A stand-alone image editor version named Showfoto is also available. It runs without digiKam images database support, but provides all Image Editor plugins.

usage:

- Just use your gesture to call up the command wheel when you want to call one of your included programs.

- Left-click the program to start it. You can also press the key shown in the programs tooltip for the same effect.
- Right-click an item to edit it. Middle-click an item to add a new one after it (clockwise).
- Make folders by clicking on folder inside the edit dialog.
Actions are simply the commands you'd use on the commandline (no shell scripting though).

- call "pyrad.py --quit" to shutdown the process in the background. "pyrad.py --help" shows the usage. "pyrad.py --daemon" starts pyRad without showing the GUI.

How many of you use the various options like play with ffplay/mplayer, encode with ffmpeg/mencoder?
I'm thinking about removing those options because I'm not using it and I never tested them (the encoding options). They are there since the initial fork.

In version 1.6 I changed the localization strings of all languages a bit. I have no idea if I did it right, because I only know german and english. Feedback on this would be great.

Usage:
Right-click onto a link to a YouTube video or at the background of the YouTube site showing the video and choose action -> Download YouTube Video -> ...


Automatic Installation (may not work because of distribution specific paths):

About:
I made some modifications to the YouTube Service Menu. It didn't work for me, so I looked at the source. I added a different method to guess the video_id and I added additional parameters to the query string to download the video.

With this konqueror service menu it is possible to download a youtube video
by right clicking a link to the video and choosing "get youtube video" from the
actions menu.
